Preparing for a Job Interview
February 12th, 2012 Filed under: Planning Tips — Productivity Planner AuthorThese days there are so many people going for the same job that it can be difficult to get an interview. Your CV is very important in determining whether or not you will be invited for interview so it is a good idea to make sure it is presented in a professional and easy to read manner. Many people are choosing to enlist the help of a professional CV writing service these days to make sure that their CV gets them to the interview stage. So if you are lucky enough to be called for an interview, how should you prepare for it?
The first thing you have to do is do some research on the company that you are hoping to work for. Most interviewers like to see that you know something about their company and that you want to really work for them. Showing that you have knowledge of the company is a great way to ensure that you impress the interviewer and you have a greater chance of getting the job. There are many ways in which you can do your research but the internet is probably your best weapon. Most companies have an online presence and you can find out quite a bit about them from their own website. You may also be able to find out other background information about the company from other websites or news articles.
Create a good first impression by making sure you look presentable and smart. This is very important as first impressions do last. If you are well groomed, the interviewer is automatically going to warm to you. Inappropriate dress will be a big turn off and could really hamper your chances of getting the job.
Be on time. Actually if possible, be early. You don’t need to be there half an hour before your interview time but you should aim to be there between ten and fifteen minutes before the interview is due to commence. Being late creates a terrible impression and no matter how good you are at interview, if it came down to a choice between you and another candidate the one who was late would probably not get the job. To make sure you are there on time, do a dry run the day before so you know exactly where you have to go and how long it should take you to get there.
