How Can a Business Increase Security

There are many businesses these days where security is a major issue. Companies with sensitive documentation or confidential dealings will want to ensure that their premises are considered safe and secure. There are a number of ways of doing this such as installing CCTV, hiring security guards or using proximity cards.

Why Use Proximity Cards

Companies that need to control certain areas of their business will use proximity cards so they can vet the various areas that specific employees should be allowed access to. Each employee is issued with a proximity card on their first day and depending on what kind of job they are doing, they will have access to certain areas of the building. There will be a proximity card reader located on every door of the building where access needs to be controlled. In order to get access to a certain area, an employee’s proximity card must be read by the reader.

How Does the Card Reader Work?

When the card is read by the reader, it will transmit the information stored on the proximity card to the network. This computer network can then determine whether or not the information on that card gives that person access to that particular area. If the person does not have the required information on their card, then they will be denied access. Proximity cards can also be used to give employees access to certain aspects of the computer network. That means any confidential company information can be controlled and restricted to those who need to see it.

Installing Proximity Card Readers

The whole proximity card reading system is actually not very difficult to get installed. They are also very easy to use and that is the main reason why so many companies will choose to secure their business in this way. Some proximity card readers can read a card from about an inch away so it is not necessary to place the card directly on the reader. This is much more convenient for a lot of people so of course this system is very popular. There are some systems that will read the card from a distance and these are useful for doors along corridors for example.
