The Great Picnic Experiment - How Picnicking Positively Affects Work Performance And Efficiency

Picnicking is more than a pleasant pastime. It can positively affect morale and efficiency in the work place. It can bring families together for new, shared experiences.

When I decided to create a website selling picnic products, I searched for a suitable distributor. I found a distributor with which to work. I thought their products were wonderful, but to make sure other people thought the same thing, I decided to run a very unscientific experiment, which I have dubbed, “The Great Picnic Experiment.” The results of that experiment have yielded dividends far greater than the approval of a line of products.

I matched products with people, ordered the products, and then threw a party for their introduction. Everyone receiving products would use them and report on their quality and usefulness. Everyone saw everyone else’s products and this created excitement for the product line. Products were used during the party. For instance, cheese was on an oval cutting board with a slide-out drawer, which held stainless steel cheese tools.

BL likes to spend time in her backyard. She got a juniper wood director’s chair, which she uses for reading and relaxation in her backyard.

KO and her husband like to go wine tasting. They received two products to test during their excursions. One was a wine cellar tote on wheels, which doubles as a cart for food. The other item was an insulated wine basket with cheese service.

BB has small children. It would not do for her to have to carry a small child and a picnic basket; so she got an insulated, hard-shell cooler on wheels with deluxe service for her whole family.

AK got a classic picnic basket with casual service. Her grandsons could not wait to picnic with this set.

AJ, DW, and I got sports chairs. AJ takes hers to archery tournaments, where she competes. DW takes his sports chair in his motor home and enjoys scenery wherever he stops. I read books and sip peach iced tea in my sports chair on my condominium balcony.

Everyone enthusiastically used their products and they really liked them. The added benefits included families getting together for outings to parks and beaches. When the families were happy, the family members were happy. This spilled over to the workplace. Happy family members exhibited better morale on the job. Higher morale translated into better work performance and more efficiency in work. Unwanted tension in the work place was relieved. The Great Picnic Experiment was a success.
